Respect at Work: Conduct, Boundaries and Speaking Up

Awareness education on workplace conduct and anti-harassment for Indian workplaces. You learn to tell friendly from awkward from harassing by looking at impact rather than intent, to state a boundary in one sentence, to interrupt something you see, and to know how a concern is raised - and you finish with a team respect charter and a personal plan you keep. It is not legal advice and it does not discharge any employer's statutory obligations.

What you'll build

  • Distinguish friendly, awkward and harassing conduct using impact and the reasonable-person view rather than intent
  • Explain in plain words what the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 requires of employers, and where to check the details
  • State a professional boundary in one sentence, out loud, without apologising for it or ending on a question
  • Identify formal and informal sources of power, and explain why the same sentence from a senior person is a different act
  • Tell quid pro quo apart from a hostile working environment, and give a worked example of each
  • Apply respect standards to chat messages, video calls, after-hours contact, forwarded screenshots and work social events
  • Recognise everyday exclusion on grounds including caste, religion, region, language, gender, disability, age and care responsibilities
  • Interrupt disrespectful behaviour using four rehearsed low-risk scripts, and follow up with the person affected
  • Describe the informal and formal routes for raising a concern, what confidentiality and non-retaliation mean, and what a respondent is entitled to
  • Produce a written team respect charter and a personal plan for what you will do if you see it
