Fatigue Management

How fatigue builds across rosters and shift work, how it degrades judgement, and the practical controls individuals and crews can use.

What this course does not do

This course covers general fatigue awareness and self-management. It is not medical advice, it is not screening or diagnosis for a sleep disorder, and it does not make you a fitness-for-work assessor. Suspected sleep disorders should go to a qualified clinician through the site's occupational health process.

Fatigue Management

By the end

What you'll build

  • Explain how sleep loss, circadian timing and time on task combine to produce fatigue
  • Recognise fatigue indicators in yourself and in a workmate before an error occurs
  • Plan sleep, light exposure and caffeine use around a shift roster
  • Sequence tasks and breaks so higher-risk work avoids the lowest-alertness window
  • Raise a fitness-for-work concern through the site's process, including on behalf of a colleague
