Coaching and Feedback

Hold coaching conversations and give feedback that describes behaviour and impact, so people leave with something they can act on.

What this course does not do

Internal, non-certifying professional development. It does not qualify anyone as a professional coach: coaching accreditation is awarded externally by coaching bodies after their own assessment and supervised practice. It is also not training in counselling, therapy or mental-health support, and situations of that kind should be referred to the appropriate specialist or support service.

Coaching and Feedback

By the end

What you'll build

  • Distinguish coaching from mentoring, managing and counselling, and choose the appropriate one
  • Ask open questions and use summarising and silence to move a conversation forward
  • Run a structured coaching conversation from contracting to an owned commitment
  • Give feedback that describes specific behaviour and its impact rather than personal traits
  • Stay constructive when feedback triggers defensiveness, in yourself or the other person
  • Recognise when an issue is outside your role and refer it on appropriately
